The talk of Lebanon adopting the federal system of governing is not new it has existed ever since the civil war broke out in 1975 as a way of mitigating the cultural and religious tensions that have plagued Lebanon throughout its existence, for long it has been a fringe idea with a good portion of Lebanese specially the muslim community refusing to any talk of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But now with the growing economic and political crisis this idea has gained considerable traction among Lebanese of various economic political and religious backgrounds as a way to lessen the political gridlocks that have plagued lebanon specially after the Syrian military exit in 2005.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is safe to say that whatever system Lebanon runs on (Parlementary republic for that matter) only generates misfortune of the people unfortunate enough to be subject of it, a new system of governance is surely needed the talk of a federal state of Lebanon based on religious affiliations is a viable option for all Lebanese and here’s why.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. It will lessen the corruption, every ‘state’ will have its own monetary fund managed by its ‘own’ people, meaning officials of the same sect and therefore accountability will fall solely on people of the community and the case for “its them not us” will no longer be applicable<\/li>
  2. It will make the relations between religious communities in Lebanon better as in it will create a sense of self determination for each sect and not a sense of intrusion on said sect’s internal affairs.<\/li>
  3. It will allow for legislation to be made independently for each state which will make people more at ease, a good example is the civil courts that are in fact decentralized for each sect already<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
