Accompanied by Pierre Raffoul a long time free patriotic movement member, Former Lebanese president Michel Aoun visited Syria, he was received at the Lebanese Syrian border by Ali Abdel Karim Ali the former Syrian ambassador to Lebanon. Later he met with Syrian president Bachar Al Assad in the presidential palace.

This visit marks the first visit since 2009 when Michel Aoun was still A member of parliament and heading the free patriotic movement .The visit also comes amidst presidential deadlock with former Minister and MP Suleiman Franjieh one of the supposed front runners in the race, Franjieh is a long time ally of the Syrian current regime and the Assad family in general, with ties going back the days of Franjieh’s grandfather President Suleiman Franjieh who was president of Lebanon from 1970 to 1976.
