The decision to step down comes at a time when the druze leader has been in the process of transferring the party and by that the sect’s leadership onto his Taymour, the process first started when Jumblat the father didn’t run for the parliamentary elections of 2018 and opted to back his son for one of the four druze seats he occupied , taymour later ran for the 2022 for the same seat , both times he unsurprisingly won.

The move although has been long in the making has come in a interesting time in Lebanese politics, with lots of speculation that the move could be to side himself from any decision his party intends to make regarding the presidential candidates , Jumblat the father a long time friend and ally of speaker of parliement Nabih Berri who is vigorously backing Suleiman Franjieh for the position of president of the republic, on the other hand the party lead now by Taymour Jumblat has refused to back Franjieh with lots of talk that they will vote for the opposing candidate Jihad Azour. The party untill now has not made its intentions clear but will have to do so by the 14th of june when the 12th electoral session is set to take place.
